Application Process
Applying to the M.S. Degree Program
- Students must have an earned a Bachelor's degree with an undergraduate GPA of 3.0 or higher for the final two years of undergraduate work. Students with degrees not in Parks, Recreation, and Tourism are encouraged to apply. Those students without prior degrees in Parks, Recreation, and Tourism will enroll in content awareness classes.
- Three letters of recommendation.
- Resume indicating background and experience.
- Performance on TOEFL for applicants for whom English is a second language (550 or higher is required).
- Entrance examination (written composition of approximately 10 pages).
- Graduate school application, fee, and official transcript are sent directly to Graduate School Admission. (Please check with Graduate School Admission for policies and application deadlines).
Applying to the doctoral degree programs
- The requirements are the same as those listed above for the M.S. degree.
- Potential Ph.D. and Ed.D. students must have an earned Masters degree. Students with degrees not in Parks, Recreation, and Tourism are encouraged to apply.
- Scores of (500 on Verbal and 500 Quantitative) on the GRE. Comparable scores on alternate graduate exams may be acceptable (e.g., MAT, GMAT).
Application Materials Due Date
Graduate applications to the Department are reviewed twice a year. Students seeking Fall admission should complete their graduate applications by March 1; students seeking Spring admission should complete their graduate applications by October 1.
International applicants are encouraged to allow additional time for the applications process. In addition, the international student applicant pool is highly competitive, and most successful applicants have arranged for faculty sponsorship prior to completing their applications with the Department.
