Ph.D. Program

Description 

The Ph.D. a 3 to 4 year (72 credit hour) degree awarded for exceptional achievement in an advanced and specialized area of study. This degree requires competence in independent research and a broad understanding of related fields of study. The Ph.D. is a “research degree” and is not awarded simply by fulfilling the residence requirements, coursework, and a simple research project.

Prospective Students 

Applications are reviewed in October and February for entry the next semester. Prospective students should review the faculty members research interests on the faculty page to determine if their research interests match your research interests. We have recently revised the Ph.D. dissertation to allow students to complete their dissertation in a Three Article Dissertation format or the traditional dissertation format. Completing three publishable papers by graduation increases the student’s marketability for professional jobs.

Careers 

The Department of Health Promotion & Education, the Ph.D. is designed to prepare students as professors and administrators in colleges and universities, and administrative, research, and program evaluation positions with private agencies or county, state and federal government.
