EMT-Basic Training (H EDU 5950/ H EDU 009)

Prerequisite - CPR certification at Professional Rescuer or Health Care Provider level. This course follows the current guidelines to prepare students for Utah Certification as an EMT. The focus is on skills and equipment likely to be used as an ambulance or hospital based EMT. Common occupational settings for EMTs are ambulance, firefighters, ski patrol, and hospital emergency room technicians.

EMT Non-certification (H EDU 5960)

Prerequisite - CPR certification at Professional Rescuer or Health Care Provider level This course is for the student who wants the knowledge, skills and training from the EMT course, but is not going to work in the field as an EMT and therefore does not need certification. These students are not, and cannot become eligible for Utah Certification as an EMT based on this class. Examples of students who may take this class are pre-med, pre-dent, pre-nursing, scout leader, and outdoor enthusiast.

ONLINE EMT-Basic Training (H EDU 5950 section 003)

Prerequisite - CPR certification at Professional Rescuer or Health Care Provider level. This course follows the current guidelines to prepare students for Utah Certification as an EMT but this course is web enhanced. Lectures will be comepleted by the student online and practical skills will be performed wtih an instructor once a week for generally 3-4hours. The focus is on skills and equipment that will likely be used on an ambulance or in a hospital by an EMT. Common occupational settings for EMTs are ambulance, firefighters, ski patrol, and hospital emergency room technicians.

EMT Recertification (H EDU 5750)

This class provides currently certified EMTs with the hours and topics required to recertify as an EMT.

EMT Intermediate (H EDU 5970)

This course expands the EMT-Basic's skills to include advanced management of hypoprofussion, airway, and drugs/medications. Utah State certification is possible after successful completion of this class. However, students may take this course for knowledge and experience and not certify. This class is offered Summer and Fall semesters.

EMT-I Recertification - (H EDU 5750)

Prerequisite - CPR certification at Professional Rescuer or Health Care Provider level. This class provides currently certified EMTs with the hours and topics required to recertify as an EMT.

Prerequisites

Current certification in Professional Rescuer or Health Care Provider level CPR. This must be obtained prior to the 2nd week of class. 

Recertification

EMTs needing several continuing education topics or hours can register for HEDU 5750 and receive academic credit or for non-credit HEDU 075 and obtain up to 50 hrs in the topic areas you need. This can provide two years worth of hours in some cases. This method also includes skills testing, Utah Practical Recertification Testing and use of the Learning Center. 

Cost:  $658 for credit, $195 for non-credit
