Discusses the emotional aspects of emergency care, stress management, introduction to Critical Incident Stress Debriefing (CISD), scene safety, body substance isolation (BSI), personal protection equipment, and safety precautions that can be taken prior to performing the role of an EMT-Basic.

Discusses Anatomy and Physiology in great detail. The importance of these two subjects in the field of EMS goes without saying. By increasing an EMT's understanding of these subjects, the better able s/he becomes in the delivery of the patient's care. In addition, this presenation discusses in detail, the lifts and moves by which this is accomplished and emphasizes those body mechanics needed to ensure a lifelong career in EMS. This course begins by providing the student with a basic knowledge of pharmacology and providing a foundation for the administration of medications given by the EMT-Basic. Then specific topics are addressed where medication use may or may not be warranted. Examples include respiratory emergencies, cardiovascular emergencies including AED use, diabetes and altered mental status, allergies, overdoses and behavioral emergencies. Medical-legal issues of handling the psychological patient are also addressed.

Discusses steps EMT's must take to avoid the legal ramifications of delivering inappropriate care. The EMT will gain a respectful understanding of the U.S. legal system, learn about "their" scope of practice, and the rights of the patient. Ethical considerations, such as Do-Not-Resuscitate (DNR) will also be considered.
