For those of you who are Training Officers, this lecture can also be shown to all your staff through a computer projection system at a time that is convenient for your personnel; after which your staff can log-on and take the test accompanying this lecture when it's convenient for them. Airway Management is a course that discusses those techniques considered essential in assessment of the airway and the rapid interventions that accompany success in its management. This class is designed for the student desiring CPR Certification or Re-certification. Coursework is delivered as streaming audio and video to get an interactive approach to CPR. Curriculum covers Foreign Body Airway Obstruction (FBAO), Breathing Emergencies, CPR for the Adult, Child, and Infant and Automatic External Defibrillation (AED). Students will be required to come to the University of Utah for Practical Testing. Certifcates are validated by the University of Utah and will be provided as a Certificate of Completion. This course begins by providing the student with a basic knowledge of pharmacology and providing a foundation for the administration of medications given by the EMT-Basic. Then specific topics are addressed where medication use may or may not be warranted. Examples include respiratory emergencies, cardiovascular emergencies including AED use, diabetes and altered mental status, allergies, overdoses and behavioral emergencies. Medical-legal issues of handling the psychological patient are also addressed.

Discusses steps EMT's must take to avoid the legal ramifications of delivering inappropriate care. The EMT will gain a respectful understanding of the U.S. legal system, learn about "their" scope of practice, and the rights of the patient. Discusses the method of assessing patients' traumatic injuries and reviews the cardiovascular system such that a student will be able to care for a patient internal and external bleeding, shock (hypoperfusion), and the emergency medical care of shock (hypoperfusion). This lecture continues with information focused on bleeding and shock, discussing the management of soft tissue injuries including techniques of dressing and bandaging wounds. Injuries to the spine and head, including mechanism of injury, signs and symptoms of injury, assessment and management are also addressed.
