Ph.D. in Exercise and Sport Science with emphasis in Sports Dietetics for
individuals with a Master's Degree who are Registered Dietitians
For individuals who are already Registered Dietitians with a Master's degree, the
option now exists to enter the doctoral level in exercise and sport science with
emphasis in exercise nutrition/sports dietetics. While the core of the program is
similar to the doctoral program in exercise physiology, students focus on exercise
nutrition and/or sports dietetics which includes supervisory training in the first and second
year during the summer. A variety of experiences and activities are
provided, including hands-on sports dietetics training in the area of athlete assessment
and screening, training monitoring, dietary planning, food service organization for
sporting events, writing, research, individual projects, and athlete education. During
the first two years, students in this degree track are encouraged to identify their
research area which should be related to exercise and sports nutrition.
