Ph.D. in Exercise Physiology in the Department of Exercise
and Sport Science (must have an M.S. degree w/thesis) with R.D. option in the
Division of Nutrition
Ph.D. in Exercise and Sport Science with emphasis in Sports
Dietetics with Registered Dietitian option
For individuals interested in combining the research and advanced coursework of a
doctoral-level exercise physiology program with the field of sports dietetics, a five-year
program is now available. The coursework is tailored to cover both aspects of this
degree track: exercise physiology and nutrition. Most of the dietetic prerequisites to
become eligible to take the Registered Dietitian Examination (coursework + dietetic
internship) are fulfilled in the fifth year, after having completed the doctoral coursework
and research leading up to the dissertation. The dietetic practice hours require a total of
900 hours which are divided into clinical, food service, community, and advanced
practice. Students selected for the Ph.D. in Exercise and Sport Science with
emphasis in Sports Dietetics and R.D. option will be placed in settings related to
sports where feasible. (Coordinated Master's Program
