Prospective Students

ATEP Application Requirements and Procedures

Application Requirements:

  • Have completed ESS 2700-Prevention & Care of Athletic Injuries and BIOL 2325 Human Anatomy or complete by the end of the application term.
  • Have a physical evaluation performed by a qualified health care professional. 
  • Provide an official transcript for each and every university/college attended with the application packet (If applicable).
  • Additionally all applicants should provide an current semester DARS report or unofficial transcript from the University of Utah.
  • Send a signed copy of the technical standards.
  • Send a copy of your First Aid Card, CPR and Hepatitis B vaccination record (Hepatitis B vaccination series does not need to be completed, but you must provide a copy of the vaccination series beginning).
  • Submit two letters of recommendation.
    • Non-University of Utah students must submit a letter of recommendation from a health care professional, other than a current University of Utah certified athletic trainer, who knows the applicant's skills and abilities.
    • University of Utah students must submit a letter of recommendation from a health care professional, other than a current University of Utah certified athletic trainer, who knows the applicant's skills and abilities.
    • This letter must be sent with the application packet.
  • A non-refundable $50 application fee made out to the Department of Exercise and Sport Science must accompany the application packet.

    Completed application packets must be sent to:

Applications must be received by the University of Utah Department of Exercise and Sport Science by 4:00 pm on October 29, 2009. Late applications and incomplete packets will be returned less application fee. Procedures for Selection:

  • You will be notified about interviews once all applications have been reviewed.
  • From the candidates interviewed, 10-20 applicants will be accepted into the program by January 2010.
  • Students accepted into the Athletic Training Education Program must be able to start the program on the University of Utah Campus during the Spring Semester of 2010.
