We are pleased that you are interested in our programs in Speech-Language Pathology and Audiology and would welcome your application. We currently have approximately 120 undergraduate majors and 80 graduate students (including masters and doctoral). Our students hail from all corners of Utah, the United States, and the World.
We believe that you will find our faculty and program to be of the highest academic quality. The faculty teach and conduct research in a variety of areas in speech-language pathology and audiology. Out of approximately 300 speech and hearing science programs in the United States, The University of Utah was recently ranked #6 by Academic Analytics. Academic Analytics assesses the scholarly productivity of faculty using their book and journal publications, journal article citations, federally-funded research grants, and honorific awards.
Requirements for admission to our graduate programs are basically the same whether you are applying for admission to our Master’s (M.A. or M.S.) or Doctoral (Au.D. or Ph.D.) program.
If you are interested in pursuing a master’s degree in Speech-Language Pathology and have not had the necessary background at the undergraduate level, please be sure that you are aware of the requirements for admission as stated in our packet for non-matriculated students.
Our clinical training programs in both Speech-Language Pathology and Audiology are accredited by the Council of Academic Accreditation of the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA). The National Student Speech-Language-Hearing Association (NSSLHA) is very active in the Department, and we encourage all students to join.
SPEECH-LANGUAGE PATHOLOGY & AUDIOLOGY EMPLOYMENT INFORMATION
Jobs in both Speech-Language Pathology and Audiology are in high demand in the state of Utah and nationwide. Job growth for Speech-Language Pathologists and Audiologists are both expected to increase by 11% between 2006 and 2016 according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, U.S. Dept. of Labor. Through 2016 government economists expect a yearly increase of 3289 new Speech-Language Pathology positions and 260 new Audiology positions.
According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, Speech-Language Pathologists earned an average salary of $63,740 in 2007. In 2006, the median annual earnings in the industries employing the largest numbers of speech-language pathologists were:

According to the U.S. Bereau of Labor Statistics, Audiologists earned an average salary of $63,660 in 2007. In January 2009 U.S. News and World Report ranked audiology as a "best career of 2008."
