Points of Pride
The faculty and staff of the Dept. of Communication Sciences & Disorders are involved in many meaningful activities in teaching, research, and community service. This page highlights some of the recent achievements and milestones within CSD.
- The Department of Communication Sciences and Disorders was recently ranked the sixth best speech and hearing science program in the United States by Academic Analytics. The rankings were assessed according to scholarly productivity of faculty using their book and journal publications, journal article citations, federally-funded research grants, and other awards.
- The CSD Department is pleased to announce three promotions among the faculty:
- Dr. Kathy Chapman to Professor
- Dr. Susan Naidu to Associate Professor (Clinical)
- Janet Goldstein, MS., to Assistant Professor (Clinical).
- Dr. Julie Wambaugh is serving a three-year term as coordinator of the ASHA Special Interest Division (SID) 2. SID 2 has 4000 affiliates.
- Dr. Bruce Smith was awarded a Fulbright Scholarhship to teach and conduct research in Poland. This highly prestigious award begins January 2010.
- Dr. Nelson Roy:
- recently became an "ASHA Fellow." The ASHA Fellowship recognizes professional and scientific achievement and is given to members who have made outstanding contributions to the profession. The award is one of the highest honors that ASHA can bestow.
- continues to be a highly sought after presentor in the area of voice disorders. In the past year Dr. Roy was the keynote speaker at two conferences (Lisbon Portugal and Chicago, IL) and gave a number of additional invited presentations (London England, Chicago, Minneapolis, Indianapolis, San Diego, and Salt Lake City).
- Dr. Sean Redmond is busy serving as:
- Associate Editor for the flagship journal in CSD: Journal of Speech, Language, & Hearing Research.
- Grant Reviwer for the National Science Foundation (NSF).

Janet Goldstein, our Speech-Language-Hearing Clinic Director, recently served as a Professional Volunteer with Operation Smile (Bolivia Mission).

Dr. Kathy Chapman recently gave an invited presentation to the Conference of the International Confederation for Cleft Lip and Palate in Fortaleza, Brazil.

Dr. Michael Blomgren is serving as:
- Associate Editor for the Journal of Fluency Disorders.
- a board member of the International Association of Logopedics and Phoniatrics (IALP) which is the primary international organization of Speech-Language Pathologists.
- A study hall for the use of the CSD undergraduate and graduate students is being created. NSSLHA is coordinating this effort.
