BACKGROUND AND EXPERIENCE

The Background and Significance section is generally read by all reviewers, so be sure you use non-technical terms that are appropriate for a broader audience. This is your chance to state the importance of your research and how it will lead to the improvement of overall public health. Show how your research is innovative and explain why it is worth funding.

To show the reviewers that you are familiar with the field and knowledgeable of the research being done, refer to all relevant scientific literature. You should identify opportunities, gaps, and roadblocks that currently exist in your field. Explain how your work will meet the mission of the funding agency, and why you are the one who is uniquely qualified to do this research.
