The Center for Contemporary Rehabilitation Research, Education & Practice (CRR)
Our Focus The University of Utah Center for Contemporary Rehabilitation Research, Education, & Practice is a collaborative effort between University Hospital Rehabilitation Services, Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation Division of the University of Utah School of Medicine, and The University of Utah College of Health. These clinical and academic partners of the Center provide comprehensive rehabilitation services to individuals in the Intermountain West. The Center is devoted to research, education and practice related to prevention, diagnosis, treatment, reintegration, and advocacy for people with the following conditions: spinal cord injury, brain injury, stroke, multiple trauma, neurologic conditions, musculoskeletal problems, amputation, cancer and other rehab related conditions. The Center is dedicated to helping individuals regain independence they have lost through injury or disease, and to educate healthcare professionals. Rehabilitation patients share a common challenge - to reach an optimum level of self reliance. The Center acknowledges its responsibility to conduct research to benefit individuals with functional disabilities, who have the same rights and needs as able-bodied persons but require specialized services to achieve their highest levels of self sufficiency. The CRR is committed to fostering collaboration that supports basic translational, clinical, and interdisciplinary research. We strive to provide a continuum of research from basic science to practical applications in all areas of Rehabilitation Science. Through research we strive to improve the lives of all those with whom we are privileged to work. We not only strive to improve Rehabilitation practice, but also to educate tomorrow's leaders and pioneers in Rehabilitation Services. Basic Science - At the basic research level we work with scientists that seek to understand the physiological and neurological processes that impact patients in the rehabilitation process. An important part of Rehabilitation is to understand the forces within the human body. Translational Research - Translational research is the bridge between studying and understand the brain and body and creating a practical body of knowledge that can then lead researchers to design improved therapeutic interventions. Clinical Studies - At the clinical trial stage we conduct human trials to test and refine new Rehabilitation techniques and clinical protocols that result from our research. We seek to set the standard in research, education and practice. We offer practical and caring solutions today, and seek to define a future of hope and possibility for our patients and their families and communities. We are imaging the future. Vision A self-sustaining, interdisciplinary center of excellence for translational research, advanced education and clinical practice in rehabilitation at the University of Utah Health Sciences Center. Mission Through collaborative rehabilitation research, education and clinical practice, advance practical/applicable knowledge that: University Health Care | HSC Webmaster | Disclaimer | Privacy Statement University of Utah Health Sciences Center - 50 North Medical Drive, Salt Lake City, Utah 84132 |
