Body Composition Testing (%fat)
All testing is done by appointment. Please call 585-7325 to schedule your test.
Body Composition Analysis- The two major components of your body (fat free/lean mass and fat mass) can be analyzed by several methods. We offer skinfold measurements and BOD POD body composition analysis.
BOD POD
($25 Community, $20 University)
BodPod Protocol Information
-
30-minute appointment
-
Please refrain from eating or exercising 2 hours before testing appointment.
-
Special clothing is necessary. Women need to bring a swimsuit or lycra shorts and a sports bra. Men need to bring a speedo or tight lycra shorts. (PEAK can provide lycra shorts if needed.)
-
The subject sits comfortably inside the BOD POD for 2-3 50-second testing periods.
-
Results are available immediately.
BodPod Results Information
-
The range of error for this test is ± 1 to 2.7%. BodPod is as accurate as hydrostatic weighing, but quicker and easier to perform.
-
PEAK tester will help to explain and interpret results
BodPod General Information
-
Testing is highly accurate, safe, and quick, with a complete analysis in about 10-minutes.
-
Uses the most advanced technology available today.
-
Easy and suitable for all types of populations including the obese, disabled, elderly, and children.
-
Provides excellent repeatability and tracking.
-
BOD POD body composition analysis is based on the same whole-body measurement principal as hydrostatic weighing method of body composition analysis but using patented air displacement technology instead of water.
-
The subject sits comfortably inside the BOD POD while computerized pressure sensors determine the amount of air displaced by the person's body.
Skinfold Measurement
($20 Community, $15 University)
Skinfold Protocol Information
-
30-minute appointment
-
It is best not to have a measurement done immediately after you exercise since the shift in body fluid to the skin increases the skinfold thickness.
-
Please bring or wear shorts to a skinfold measurement.
-
The skinfold method of body composition analysis is fairly quick and moderately invasive.
-
A trained professional will measure the thickness of a skinfold at seven different sites on the body with a skinfold caliper.
-
2-3 measurements are recorded at each location and the average of the seven measurements is used in calculating the body composition.
Skinfold Results Information
-
The accuracy of skinfold measurements are within ± 3.5-5%.
-
Results are available immediately
-
PEAK tester will help to explain and interpret results
